Texas Digital Sanborn Maps
These digitized maps provide detailed property and land-use records
that depicts the architecture of more than 12,000 U.S. towns and cities
throughout the past one hundred years. The maps enable researchers to
trace the architectural history of individual buildings or entire
communities. One can see everything from building outline, size and
shape, construction materials, height, building use, windows and doors,
street and sidewalk widths, boundaries, house numbers, and more.
Symbols for stables, garages, warehouses, and other commercial sites
are also included. Factories are often labeled with the owner's name,
as well as the products manufactured there. Also depicted are
pipelines, railroads, wells, water mains, and dumps. Search for the
maps by typing in the state or community. Once a map is obtained, they
pinpoint the streets, landmarks, and other places noted in the map's
index. Once displayed, the maps can be manipulated, expanded, printed,
and downloaded.
This information is tied to specific geographic areas and is categorized and indexed using different methods, such as county, State, and zip code boundaries or geographic coordinates like latitude and longitude. These data will be collected and integrated to a consistent set of standards to support
U.S. Census Bureau Maps and Cartographic Resources This department of the U.S. Bureau of the Census provides links to maps in pdf format (need Adobe Acrobat Viewer) and the TIGER Mapping Service an on-line mapping service that generates high-quality, detailed maps of anywhere in the United States, using public geographic data.

American Memory Map Collections The Library of Congress's Geography and Map Division provides access to historical maps from around the world. Several search options are available to search in a variety of categories.
