MEDLINE,
the primary index of the National Library of Medicine, provides citations
and abstracts to authoritative medical information covering medicine, pathology,
toxicology, psychiatry, the health care system, pre-clinical sciences,
and much more. MEDLINE allows users to search abstracts and MeSH Headings
from thousands of scholarly journals. MEDLINE is available in several versions,
with each one offering specific features and distinct search formats:
Medline
with MeSH from Ebsco
Search by Author, Abstract, Core Concept, Core Word, Gene Symbol, MeSH
Word, MeSH Heading, and more. Offers special limiters for research on humans,
with subsets on gender and age groups, or on animals, with a subset on
specific animals.
The National
Library of Medicine offers links to MEDLINE through: PubMed and NLM
Gateway.
These are free sites open to anyone.
NOTE: To

Chemistry:
A Select Guide to Resources at Austin College, Abell Library
compiled by Douglas M. Campbell, Reference Librarian.
netLibrary
collection of full-text electronic books (ebooks) includes a wide variety of subject content from both popular and scholarly texts. Users can search across the entire eBook collection for authors, titles, or keywords, and they can search within books for keywords and phrases. Users may read or browse through ebooks for an unlimited amount of time. A title may be unavailable temporarily when all NetLibrary copies are in use by other patrons.
You are allowed to print one page at a time using your Web browser's print function or the print function on the Adobe Acrobat toolbar. Printing the entire eContent item violates copyright laws and precautions are taken to protect those copyright laws.
Some subject headings used for this discipline are listed below. For additional headings, refer to the Library of Congress Subject Headings volumes located behind the Reference Desk.
ChemFinder is a quick fact-finding database. It is searchable by chemical name, molecular formula, molecular weight, CAS registry number, and chemical structure. It offers free download for ChemDraw, a structure drawing software. There is a list of the sites indexed, a glossary of terms used and answers to frequently asked questions.
ChemiPlus online interactive periodic table.
Chemweb.com access is through free membership. Its features include free structure searching, live 3D molecules, full-text searching in many trade and society journals, conferences and meetings information, and a browsable Web index. Full-text access to some journals is fee based. In the "people and news" section, users can attend virtual lectures, find a job, advertise for staff, and contact other members. This site also offers Beilstein abstracts free to its members.
Chemistry Preprint is a permanent Web archive and distribution medium for research articles in the field of chemistry and allied sciences. Modeled after the Los Alamos preprint server, it is recognized by open archive and delivered by Chemweb.com.
Science.gov is a search engine for government science information and research results.
Knovel presents:
Dialogues Concerning Two New Sciences by Galileo Galilei - translated by Henry Crew and Alfonso de Salvio in 1914 and now available as an electronic text.
Essential Practices for Managing Chemical Reactivity Hazards is useful for safety managers, chemists, and engineers alike, helps both small and large companies identify, address, and manage chemical reactivity hazards. Free distribution of this book on www.knovel.com has been made possible by the Center for Chemical Process Safety, US Occupational Safety and Health Administration, US Environmental Protection Agency, American Chemistry Council, Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association, and Knovel Corporation.
International Critical Tables of Numeric Data, Physics, Chemistry and Technology - 7 volumes and index - (first electronic edition). ICT offers data on physical, thermodynamic, mechanical, and other key properties and is a major reference source used by those involved in chemistry, physics, and engineering.
knovel Critical Tables is a brand new reference featuring tables of properties for commonly used chemical compounds in the physical properties tables. kCT has expanded the original 6,000 chemical compounds in the physical properties tables of International Critical Tables to more than 13,000 compounds.
Smithsonian Critical Tables (9th revised edition) Comprising 901 tables concentrating on a broad scope of common physical and chemical data, the information provided is of general interest to scientists and engineers, and of particular interest to those involved with physics in its larger sense. Requires Adobe Acrobat.
Handbook of Mathematical Functions with Formulas, Graphs, and Mathematical Tables Edited by Abramowitz and Stegun, this handbook has been designed to provide scientific investigators with a comprehensive and self-contained summary of the mathematical functions that arise in physical and engineering problems.
National Institute of Standards Chemistry Webbook This site provides thermochemical, thermophysical, and ion energetics data compiled by NIST under the Standard Reference Data Program.
