Gale Literary Databases

Gale Literary Databases have three major components: Literature Resource Center; Scribner Writers Series; and, Twayne’s Author Series.  Literature Resource Center alone has three major components: Dictionary of Literary Biography; Contemporary Authors; and, Contemporary Literary Criticism.  Dictionary of Literary Biography also has three major components: Dictionary of Literary Biography (i.e. DLB) and the DLB Archive together are referred to as the DLB Complete, v. 1-348; DLB Yearbooks, 1980-2002; and the DLB Documentary Series, vol. 1-19.

All of these titles have been published in print for over thirty years and are known for their excellence in academic literary research.  This group of databases is the best source for literary biographies of authors, historians, journalists, screenwriters, publishers, and playwrights.  It is also the best source for bibliographies of works these authors have written.  Gale Literary Databases contain critical essays on the authors and on their works.  Altogether, this group contains more than 6000 work overviews, plot summaries, and explications.  Search by the author's name, the title of the work, or even by the title of the periodical or journal that is part of the database.  For specific help with any of these databases, consult one of the reference librarians.

Gale Literary Databases is on Abell Library’s A-Z list of databases; or, see C for Contemporary Authors & Contemporary Literary Criticism; see D for Dictionary of Literary Biography; see L for Literature Resource Center; see S for The Scribner Writers Series; see T for The Twayne's Author Series on the A-Z list of databases.
