Alternative Press Index
and News Sources

With a very important U.S. presidential election less than a month away, the news media are very busy.  So where do you get your news?  Abell Library’s web resources have links to a variety of news sources from the main stream media (MSM) to alternative news sources.

Alternative Press Index (AltPressIndex)

In our A to Z list of E-sources, you can find the subscription database, Alternative Press Index.  It currently indexes over 250 sources including journals covering cultural, economic, political & social change. You can limit your search to items available in Abell Library.

AltPress covers publications from 1991 to present and is updated every 3 months.

Alternet News

A link for many free and subscription News Sources is located within Reference Sources under Research Tools on Abell’s homepage.  Along with links to many MSM sources, under the heading “U.S. Based Daily/Weekly News Sources” you’ll find an award-winning news magazine, Alternet.

Many current articles pertain to the presidential candidates, but other topics are also included. According to the description on their web site, “AlterNet's aim is to inspire action and advocacy on the environment, human rights and civil liberties, social justice, media, health care issues, and more.”

And if everything from politics to the economy to a heavy course load has you feeling down, then head over to (also under “U.S. Based Daily/Weekly News Sources”) for “All The News That’s Fun To Print.”
