About Abell -> Tours

Welcome to Abell Library Center

We have designed this tour to help you become familiar with the materials, personnel, and services of the Abell Library. A few minutes spent on this tour will help you greatly in your studies. Before you begin your tour, you should keep three things in mind:

First, there is a great deal of information available. Abell Library contains almost 200,000 books and bound periodical volumes. The library also provides access to thousands of books, periodicals, and reference sources in electronic format. The library also contains items in various microformats. We acquire, organize, and maintain these materials so that you can use them in your studies.

Second, there is a lot of personal help available. Sometimes all the information made available by the library can be overwhelming. In addition, we are continually adding new electronic databases—often each has its distinct search protocols. Please ask us questions. Our primary purpose is to help you make good use of the library.

Third, there are numerous services available. We have copier machines, microform reader-printers, an audiovisual viewing and listening equipment, a microcomputer lab, an instructional computer classroom, and other services available to the members of the Austin College community.

Remember, you can take this tour at your own pace and in your own way. This guide is a way to begin learning how to use a resource that will be very important in your college career. We hope that you find this guide helpful and will feel free to ask questions as you need assistance.
