BookMyne at Abell Library

BookMyne

BookMyne is an iPhone app that enables you to search your home library catalog -- in this case, Abell Library Center. You can even log into your account using your AC i.d. number in order to renew items and see what you have checked out. You can also search nearby catalogs (for those local libraries that use SirsiDynix software to host their catalog as does Abell Library) while on the go when out of your home institution area. Visit the iTunes store to download BookMyne free and take advantage of this great app that helps you to research on the go!

After you download and install the app on your iPhone from the website linked above, open BookMyne and follow the automatic prompts to select your library. If you are in Sherman, BookMyne will automatically detect Abell Library Center; select it and BookMyne will bring up a screen that allows you to search the catalog or log into your account. At the bottom of the screen to the left you will see a search icon, where you can enter search terms (key word searching only); BookMyne will search the collection and return a list of results whereupon you can touch the records you are interested in to view details. The second icon at the bottom will say "My Account;" when you touch it, a login prompt will appear. Here you will enter your Austin College user id number, beginning with AC, all zeroes, and the following number -- i.e., enter the entire i.d. If you have trouble logging into your account or using this application, please call Shannon Fox at 903-813-2559 for assistance, or email her.

For more detailed instructions, please read this PDF guide (not location specific): iPhone App Guide by SirsiDynix.

As an alternative to BookMyne, you can use your Safari browser on your iPhone and point it to this website. Touch the Books, Videos, Etc. link and navigate and search the library's catalog normally, and log into your account as well. If you need to access a NetLibrary book, this is the preferred method to use. BookMyne will not open or navigate to ebooks for you.

Brief Tutorial Created In-House
BookMyne SearchWhen you open the BookMyne app, touch "Search" at the bottom to bring up the search function. You can only search with keywords or by barcode. The barcode search will bring up a camera that allows you to scan a barcode. I have not included screen shots of this function at this time.
BookMyne Search: Enter KeywordsTouch the search field as you would with other iPhone functions to bring up the keyboard, and then enter your search terms.
BookMyne Search ResultsHere are the results for my biochemistry search. In this example, I touched the first record to bring up its details.
BookMyne Search Results Record DetailDetails of the first record in the search results: you can see the title, author, publication years, ISBN number, Call Number, and that the item is available for circulation.
BookMyne My AccountTo access your account, touch "My Account" at the bottom of the screen. You will login with your AC i.d. number; enter everything beginning with AC, leading zeros, the entire number. Then you will be able to see what you have checked out, renew items, and place items on hold.
BookMyne Search LibrariesTo search for libraries, touch "Libraries" at the bottom. This interactive global map comes up. You can spin the globe to the appropriate area.
BookMyne Search Libraries: locate Abell Library on the mapI use Abell Library Center for this example. I "spun" the globe around to Texas, zoomed in (via touch), and touched the dot that looked closest to my destination, in this case, Sherman, Texas. You can see in the image that Abell Library Center came right up.
BookMyne Search Libraries: Detail about Abell LibraryIf you touch the blue "right arrow" button in the example above, details about the library come up. Here you can see the web address, physical address, phone number and hours of the library, and you can touch the map icon to the right of the address to pull up directions to the library from where you are at currently.

I hope you enjoyed this picture tour of BookMyne. Please explore BookMyne for yourself to see what other features are offered. If you require assistance, do not hesitate to contact Shannon Fox.
